THERMEXPERT is a web based application that enables generation of potential-pH or Pourbaix diagrams on the internet. The application has an associated thermodynamic data base. Potential-pH diagrams can be powerful aids in assessing the thermodynamic state of a metal in the presence of water and other ionic components important in a corrosion process. This state may be considered the theoretically most stable state of the system as determined by the temperature, pressure, pH, potential, and interacting ions considered. These interacting (or complexing) ions can be inorganic or organic in nature. Either can be used in this application. Two plots are presented, a "metal state diagram" and a "solution state diagram". The first shows the most stable state of the metal as a function of pH and potential. The second shows the most stable state of the metal-containing species in solution as a function of pH. The total potential-pH diagram is an overlay of these two. Additional background is provided both within this application and in the associated tutorial THERMTUTORIAL which can be accessed by clicking on the button on the side panel.

THERMEXPERT provides a straightforward user interface for generating such diagrams. The user chooses the metal, one interacting species such as chloride or phosphate (if needed), the temperature, and a title for the plot. The application then retrieves the necessary information from a thermodynamic data base to generate the initial plots. Included on the returned page is the ability to change the input ions, activities and temperature for the metal and interacting species. The plots themselves can be printed and saved. Detailed information on how to use this generator is presented in THERMTUTORIAL, in particular the page entitled "Using THERMEXPERT - a step-by-step procedure". This portion of the tutorial should be read prior to using this application. Please use the comment sheet to notify Argentum Solutions if there are metals and interacting species that are desired and are not now included.
